Music has always been a great source of inspiration for my art so it should come as no surprise that my musical interests would find their way into the ongoing Fae Nouveau project. I touched on that subject in Part 4 and this is very much a continuation of that thought.
ICE QUEEN (2010)
This was originally done as a Christmas card the year that I completed the first of the Fae Nouveau Coloring Books. It was inspired by a song by the band Within Temptation and is a portrait of their singer Sharon den Adel.
SNOWY OWL DANCE (2012)
This image features the lovely Martine Kraft and her signature Hardanger Fiddle, of which she is a master. As Martine is from Norway I’ve included a Norwegian midnight sun landscape behind her…and the snowy owls, well, they’re just cool.
A year or two after doing this picture I had the great pleasure of meeting Martine and seeing her and her band perform at Faerieworlds. This inspired me to create a follow-up piece that harkened back to that performance and to her song Mighty Moon. This was also later used as promotional artwork for her.
The two pieces below are meant to be counterparts with a yin/yang sort of relationship. The Autumn Raven is a tribute to the Queen of Symphonic Metal Goddesses, Tarja, though not inspired by any particular song.
AUTUMN RAVEN (2013)
ANGEL PAIR (2014)
The angels are represented by the Harp Twins, Camille & Kennerly, identical twins who do occasionally dress as angels to perform their masterful duet harp arrangements of a delightfully eclectic assortment of musical pieces.
ROSA MUNDI & THE RAVEN (2015)
The most recent addition to the series features Kelly Miller-Lopez of the band Woodland. Most of the elements in this image were based on suggestions from her describing her various attributes.
